Candy Waters Autism Art Scam?

I think it is great that art is being used as an outlet for this child. What I find confusing is the independent sale of this artwork and heavy marketing online by her parents. If you research Candy Waters, you will see her parents promoting their zazzle shop that sells reproductions of her art in infinite forms, from greeting cards to clothing.

They have completely commercialized their daughter’s condition by creating a business with the artwork they claim as hers but show no evidence that she has actually painted it. They also claim that 50% of the sales of their zazzle products are donated to charity. Does the sale of this artwork actually benefit charity?

Beyond this, there is no visual evidence or proof that Candy has created the work that is so heavily branded as hers. If you watched the Youtube video of Candy painting, you will see her technique and resulting image differ completely from the style and precision in what is being sold on the zazzle shop. The two are night and day.

Consumers supporting the work of an autistic artist have a right to know the authenticity of the product they are buying. There is no evidence that they were done by an autistic artist. If you look at the following photo, labeled as Candy putting finishing touches on a painting, you will see that the painting is completely dry and the brush has no trace of paint on it at all.

Furthermore, when anyone directly inquires to the family about the process of Candy’s work, including parents of Autistic children, information that would be extremely helpful to them or therapists working with them, the comments get deleted, user gets banned, and the subject is completely avoided. Why do this unless you have a fraudulent operation you are trying to hide?

In an interview with a Licensed Art Therapist, her assessment of Candy’s work was as follows:

“I’ve worked with individuals with autism for the last five years, there are different levels of functioning. As autism is a Developmental Disorder, and often diagnosis is scale related, lower function to high function and the highest being Asperger’s. Candy seems to be lower functioning, and unable to produce the brush stroke seen in two of the paintings that I just looked at.
My individuals who cannot manipulate a paint brush, resemble Candy in the same manner and create abstract art, masses of color similar to what Candy does. My higher functioning individuals are able to manipulate the brush(es), and have completed portraits, still life’s and other compositions. I would also question it, as her father seems to do a lot of promoting in the video, telling her to spread that paint more. She is easily distracted, and her attention span is brief. Candy would not be able to do something like the birds without handover hand assistance, or someone doing it for her.”

  1. I too have wondered the same , now after watching the video and seeing the pictures it raises many questions , I myself am a mother of autistic son and a artist and I find myself in disbelief that these painting were painted by Candy . I love to see some questions answered.
Sadly I tried to connect with Sandy Waters through Facebook and I was blocked ! Something doesn’t add up .
    Thank you . Kristen D .

      1. I have nothing to hide , and knowing who I am is as easy as looking to the top of my comment where my name is conveniently placed.
I am curious though as to why the only documented footage from your YouTube page of candy paining has been deleted could you shed some light on that Sandy or Robert Waters ?

      2. You are the liar, both you and Sandy lies so much just so you can keep your scam going that you even believe your own lies. Both of you need your heads examined. And both of you are pretty much clueless about Autism and the issues your daughter have to endure from you. It is so obvious.

    2. I can say with relative confidence that the whole thing is an ill-conceived scam. I guess these so called parents aren’t very bright though. An intelligent person would at least be a little more creative with this scam. At least I can say that mom or dad, or both, can create some pretty cool paintings. I like them lol. But with all the effort they put in to trying to scam people they could both get a job.

  2. I’m glad to see these questions asked publicly in a forum where the parents don’t get to delete/block/accuse anyone who raises an innocent concern. Anything made for public display and sale should always be examined carefully and verified by an objective organization. Anyone who purchases a product, especially a piece of art or art reproduction, has the right to be assured that it was made authentically and with an honest process – not faked, scammed, or artificially enhanced in any sort of way. If the family is branding and claiming this art as being made independently by their child, then that’s what the process should be shown as – no smoke and mirrors or deceptions. If polite and civil questions about how it’s made or requests for any sort of video/photographic examples of the work in progress are evaded and the person asking the questions is made to feel vilified and attacked, it speaks volumes about the lack of transparency from this family.

As a fellow parent of children with disabilities, one of them non-verbal and severely Autistic, similar to Candy in many ways, I find it shameful and appalling that a family would exploit/profit/commercialize their child’s disability, under the guise of “raising awareness”. Instead, it looks more like they’re trying to vicariously find fame and attention and celebrity endorsements through their child, since that’s what the heavy focus is on, according to their online presence. Raising children is expensive, and I know firsthand that raising disabled children is even more pricey. If this family needs money for the care of their child, then I would hope that they would come by it honestly like the rest of us, or apply for public assistance.

It’s easy to search the internet to find hundreds lovely examples of Autistic people being creative through visual and performing arts, as a means of communicating. There are video examples and photographs of children and adults with disabilities creating wonderful works to show the world and “speak through their art”. These are all over the media and YouTube and easy to find. When my disabled children do remarkable things, I do what most proud parents do – I video and take photos of it as it’s happening to document and preserve it. Mysteriously, there are no videos of Candy actually creating her sellable art (images of flowers, birds, starbursts, rainbows).

Silence means approval. I would rather speak up and look like a jerk and be proven wrong about this innocent child, then be silent with the possibility that a girl who can’t speak is being exploited and her disabilities profited from as a full-on business for their personal gain. I really hope that I’m wrong in this case. I would love to see that she is really creating these pieces for sale and being displayed by celebrities. Otherwise, it is a stab in the heart to charitable organizations and most especially those of us in the Autistic community.

    1. Interesting that the “Liiz” alias was one of the Waters parents (yes, we saw), but then they quickly changed the profile to “Liiz123”. Thought no one would notice? Nice try. Additionally, everything said by the original blogger on this page is fully protected by the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. It is not against the law or slanderous to ask a question about the origin of a product in this country. No laws have been broken on the blogger’s end – can’t say the same for the family who is likely making a living off of their child’s disability. The blogger isn’t “on notice” for anything. Maybe that family should get real and educate themselves about the laws surrounding art forgery:

      1) Anyone who buys a piece of art or product in the United States is allowed to ask where and how it was made and to request proof of its authenticity. It’s not against the law or slanderous to ask the question about its origin. No one is attacking a person or a family here, they are asking about the process and legitimacy of how the art is made – and the family is evading the questions with threats and scare tactics.
      2) Anytime a person is creating a piece of art and in some way passing it off as being from a different hand, they are committing art forgery and false attribution. That’s about as plain as it gets. If the child is not painting those pictures completely on her own as claimed, and they are refusing to prove it, then a fraud is likely being committed.

It also undermines all charitable causes that it’s being done in the name of, which is despicable.
And before attacking the blogger as if they’re saying something negative about a special needs family like that’s some sort of low blow on their part, keep in mind that many of us who are concerned about the origin of this “Candy Waters Autism Art” are ALSO special needs families with non-verbal children and children with severe delays – we walk in those shoes too. So DON’T speak for us, please, as you appear to profit and try to gain fame off of your child’s disabilities in the name of “spreading awareness”. It’s desperate and sad. Sorry about your failed music career, but you still need to earn an honest living like the other adults out there. Of course we have sympathy for the child. Let’s not muddy the water. The questions are about the ART process – not about her or her unfortunate disability.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see this Autistic child actually making one of her art pieces and to set any doubts to rest? What a simple solution. There are literally hundreds of examples of other non-verbal children creating art and music on YouTube, other internet sites, or on TV – you can see them actually creating it in the moment. But not this child. Seems like showing a current video of her painting the more complex pieces (like the ones being peddled) would be a lot easier than making a bunch of “legal action” threats in an effort to circumvent. Not sure when the last time was that I heard a judge would just accept some internet links, hearsay, and staged photos as “evidence” and actual proof in a case. But okay…

    1. Hi Sandy/Robert,
I’ve approved your comments, even though it was posted multiple times, in order to maintain transparency. I have nothing to hide with this website and welcome your comments.

I did not message you on February 22, so I am not sure who you are referring to, but you are confusing me with someone else. I am sure you receive many messages due to the popularity of the page you run. I also know this issue has been discussed by many people, not just me.

I’m not sure what the purpose an attorney would serve for this blog entry as the right to freedom of speech ensures that I am fully within the rules/guidelines to ask questions and inquire about something publicly posted on that internet that is suspicious. I am also not using any of the artwork on this website. If there is an article that discusses Candy’s artistic process and shows how she makes her paintings, I would love to see it. I know mothers with autistic children inquired about this with you directly but then had their comments deleted and were blocked.

      2. “Liiz”/Robert/Sandy
You are disregarding the fact that the people voicing their opinions here are also part of the autistic community with loved ones of similar disabilities. This was never meant to insult Candy. Let me reiterate: The issue at hand is the authenticity of the artwork you are heavily promoting and selling as hers with no proof that she is the artist of these paintings. You are running a business off her condition.

And to answer your question, no. I would never hurt an animal; I can’t even squish a bug. However, I don’t see how that has anything to do with my concerns of you running an Internet scam.

  6. Isn’t it interesting that the more questions get asked, and the topic of an art scam is discussed surrounding this family, the more visual evidence (photos, video) seems to “disappear” so they can’t be closely scrutinized? Now if someone said to me, “Hey, is that really YOU making that art?”, I would set up a camera and say, “Oh yes, watch me – I’ll show you” to remove any doubt. I would also answer questions about the artistic process, especially when it could be a KEY to helping other Autistic children who are non-verbal. Usually, people in the disabled community want to help each other, and not “hide behind the curtain”. I thought this family was all about “raising awareness”? That’s what they’ve been saying over and over (and over and over and over…..) all over the internet. Right?

What I would *NOT* do is delete everything and threaten to call an attorney. Because that would look pretty bad for a person’s credibility.

  7. “They also claim that 50% of the sales of their zazzle products are donated to charity. If that is the case, 50% of the cost should be tax-deductible for the buyer with a proven charity receipt of that donation.”

NOT TRUE. This is true ONLY if the seller (zazzle) is a 503(c) charity, otherwise it is the seller that takes the deduction.

    1. The bottom line is that the money being made and all of the media attention gotten by the family through selling art (and art reproductions) appears duplicitous. The Waters family is saying that Candy painted the art, when it is clear as explained by the comments above (along with the video and several posed photos that were up for so long) that she did not. The family refuses to share details that would authenticate it.

Are they not even interested in showing the world that their daughter really IS the one creating the art, with just a simple video or observation by an objective 3rd party? They could easily prove that all those birds, flowers, multi-colored, “starbursts” paintings and so forth, were from Candy’s hands. But no – they’d rather just take down the video and photos and hide from sharing the truth – and desperately try to divert attention. Ridiculous.

Just so you know, there are much better and more noble (you know…HONEST) ways to “raise awareness” for a disability and set a good example for the Autistic community. But we can all see that what you are REALLY interested in “raising” is your bank account balance from what looks to be a business based on art fraud. How long do you plan on keeping the charade up?

  8. Would that mean the Waters do NOT have an independent 501(c)(3) not for profit standing for their art business, and are thus operating as a for-profit, making a profit off the artwork claimed to be done by Candy?

Anyway, the real issue at hand is the wide sale of artwork online claimed to be done by an autistic child and her parents diverting any questions concerning its authenticity. There is no supporting argument that shows that she has painted the images that are being sold on Zazzle and that are branded as by “Candy Waters Autism Artist”. In fact, the only video actually showing her painting was removed from YouTube today after being online for years. It showed exactly how the work Candy Waters produced in the video was vastly different from the work appearing on zazzle in technique and motor ability.

I believe the family is running an art business that appears to be fraudulent and profiting off their child’s disability by claiming she is the artist of the paintings for sale.

If their goal is truly to raise awareness of autism and help the autistic community, why is it that members of the autistic community are here giving their firsthand accounts that the family blocked and deleted their comments when they inquired about how Candy paints so that they could help their own autistic children?

  12. I’ve been a longtime fan of Candy’s work and am surprised to hear that people are questioning this. 1. I agree, I’ve followed candy for a long while now. To be honest I think I was spam added to their Facebook group years ago, because I don’t remember liking it myself. Regardless of that, she’s a young girl with autism, just like my daughter who is also an artist and writer, so watching candy was inspiring. To hear this may be a scam infuriates me. I want to know the truth. Share a current video or lose my support.

      1. @Dre Luka: First the parents made the original home video “private” (of Candy in the backyard, smearing and making blobs, where she obviously doesn’t have the motor skills, attention span, focus, or coordination to make the Zazzle art). It’s the video they sent to the news stations with the claim that “news crews have filmed her painting”.
        Then, it was public.
        Then private.
        Then, public.
So that right there is pretty shady.

Recently, they’ve published some really fake videos where it shows Candy starting off with some dots and blobs. THEN – it cuts quickly to an extreme closeup where you can’t see the anyone’s hands or face – just a mystery paint brush making some quick flicks and strokes that look kind of like the “feathers” on the Zazzle paintings. It is obviously not Candy. Then, it cuts back out to show Candy in a full shot again, back to making the dots and blobs on top of the “feathers”.

        Welcome to bad editing 101.

  13. Wow. Reading through these comments is very interesting. If my child painted something and there was a question of its authenticity I would simply post a video of my child painting…. No questions asked. The scary and threatening comments posted by Candy’s parents are more proof that they are indeed perpetrators of a fraud.

    1. Absolutely, it seems if nothing to hide there would be no reason to respond with ridiculous threats of legal action.
Ye who protests the loudest often has the most to hide.
I’ve followed Sandy’s posting after she’s joined many non profit groups which I’m members of , violated posting guidelines by posting links to art for sale .
I think the art is both lovely and happy, why not answer public questions as to the validity of the paintings and provide proof of profits donated to charities.
These are issues which keep me from purchasing prints .

  14. To clarify, Alina is not alone in her opinions and comments. The comments and opinions shown on this blog are NOT all coming from the same person.

There are several of us (who are ALSO fellow parents of severely disabled and non-verbal Autistic children) who are also concerned and questioning the authenticity of the art being created “supposedly” by Candy Waters.

So why are Sandy and Robert Waters cyber stalking, bullying, and threatening only Alina? Do they honestly think she is the ONLY person who is questioning the truth about how the Candy Waters Autism Artist “art” is made?

Each of the comments on this blog represent individuals with their own perspectives and opinions. Newsflash — opinions and questions aren’t illegal.

    LET’S BE EVEN MORE CLEAR:
    1) The questions asked about the art aren’t “false statements”. No one here has made any false or fraudulent statements whatsoever, especially by civilly asking questions. You know who’s made plenty of false statements, though? Yes, pretty sure you know who, and it’s not Alina.

    2) Alina is not trying to maliciously “destroy” anyone’s career. People are requesting proof of authenticity that the child is independently creating the art herself, as it is being claimed and marketed. People who buy art are entitled to know, especially is art fraud is suspected. The people who ask these questions want the truth about how the Candy Waters art/designs are generated, since it appears that the child lacks the skills to really create the pieces herself. IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO TELL THE TRUTH.

    3) No one gets to tell someone else who to contact. No, you don’t get to demand that Alina can’t publicly or privately ask questions if something seems peculiar.
    Contact a news organization? Legal.
    Contact a charity? Legal.

No law is being broken by asking questions and making inquiries. It is not “extreme malice” (from the Waters’ copy/pasted boilerplate-style letter) to respectfully ask questions, which is what Alina and other commenters have done. So no, you may not like it, but you DON’T get to micromanage other people’s conversations and issue your own personal “gag orders”.

    4) Alina is NOT “harassing a minor” (again, from the Waters’ letter, posted above). She has NOT contacted the child. Alina has NOT personally addressed the child in print or otherwise. No one is “harassing the Waters family”. In fact, it is quite clear that everyone is sympathetic to the child’s disability – especially those of us who are parents of kids with similar disabilities.

It has been said again and again – the questions are specifically about THE ART and the process of making the paintings, not the child or the family. So let’s please stop trying to spin a story and act like Alina is targeting any individuals because in all reality, SHE IS NOT and no one is.

    5) The only actual illegal harassment is coming from the Waters parents, in the form of illegally publishing Alina’s personal and unlisted information, cyber stalking her, harassing and contacting her workplaces, affiliates, and relatives. What’s sickening is that the Waters family attacked Alina personally, when these questions and blog are strictly about an art business – not individuals.

    6) The letter from the Waters keeps saying Alina is making untrue statements. The thing is, there is nothing untrue or fraudulent about what is being asked here. Alina and the other commenters have not said anything that cannot be shown as true. The facts have all been presented in a transparent and forthright manner.

On the other hand, it would be GREAT to see some authentication of the art from Candy Waters.
WHY NOT SIMPLY PROVE THAT CANDY IS MAKING HER ART, instead of being evasive? With all of the effort put into attacking and illegally stalking Alina, why doesn’t the Waters family just use that same energy to put everyone’s doubts to rest and show that the child is actually making the art herself? (I think we all know the answer to that one…)

They want to “raise awareness” and “help others” and all that “faith and love and hope”, right? Give me a break.

ONCE AGAIN, Alina is not the only one asking questions. So to maliciously attack her alone is pretty pointless.

It is pretty obvious that the Waters parents are trying really hard to create a diversion and personal scandal so that the scrutiny is off of their art business. They are stooping pretty low, just to avoid showing how their daughter makes the art that the family is living off of. And targeting Alina with their hatefulness? Vile and disgusting.

What the Waters are doing is an insult to the rest of us in the Autistic and Special Needs community.

  15. This is my last comment on the situation as I’ve been alerted that my private information is now being shared by the Waters due to an innocent inquiry and comment on this blog.

My comment has never been about the family on a personal level, but about the business which happens to be named after their autistic child. I have not had any contact with this child or any desire to.

The blog is a collective of opinions. I am easily targeted because of my art business, which is a separate and irrelevant entity to this discussion.

Not only has the Waters family now posted my information in an effort to slander me, but they have spent Mar 2 – 4 researching and calling/emailing my past and current employers, institutions that show my artwork or are some how affiliated with me, as well as family members of mine that have been connected to what ever report they paid for to get unlisted information about me. The Waters have told them I am “stalking/harrassing their child who is a minor with autism” and spreading other falsehoods about me in an effort to deliberately ruin my reputation. I am not stalking anyone. It appears to be the other way around.

This behavior is absolutely uncalled for.
To inquire to a foundation, charity, or reporter about the authenticity of a product they endorse is one thing. To deliberately slander my name based on a personal opinion/belief I have that is in no way a representation of my art or my business, to my business colleagues in an effort to ruin my reputation is not only vengeful and reckless, but grounds for harassment.

The police are handling the situation and any further comment will come from my attorneys should the Waters continue to harrass me both on and offline.

    Thank you.

  16. This is crazy. It seems the Waters family feels that being questioned about the authenticity of the paintings they are selling is a direct threat to their livlihood. Wouldn’t it be far more simple and less time consuming to answer the questions, leave no doubt and move on happily with life? To spend the effort and time it has taken them to try to shut down the questions in such a hostile and harrassing manner is very telling as to what the answers really are. Do they realize that people are now forming their opinions based on their reaction alone?? That being said, I am no artist, however all the evidence presented so far leads me to believe that they are shamefully profiting by a scam perpetrated in the name of awareness, which makes it even more reprehensible. If they had any integrity at all, they would simply post a video of their daughter painting a bird and be done with it. However, this seems to be an impossible task. Why? It is a valid question that deserves an answer.

R & S Waters: Please…send me a cease and desist for posting my opinion. I could really use a good laugh this morning.

  17. Their actions only further validate that their business is founded on deception. No one in their right mind would behave so unprofessionally when questioned about their product. Furthermore, who uses WordPress to serve a obviously fake cease and desist?

  18. It looks to me that the only one lying is the Waters family. I got a screenshot of a post that they are claiming a link to this blog is a virus and warning people not to click on it.

  19. Hey sandy! I too contacted the police/ better business bureau on you 🙂 I told them about your scam and how you’re profiting illegally off your child (a minor) by selling artwork labeled to be hers. Because you obviously know no one would buy that artwork unless it was to “support charity”. I also contacted zazzle and let them know what you’ve done. The second I asked you to see a video of candy painting, you blocked me. You keep telling this woman how she’s bullying your child. But I think YOU are the real bully, for exploiting your own child. Please feel free to contact me and I will give you my full name, email, whatever you would like. And I would be MORE than happy for you to contact the police/FBI. Quite frankly I would prefer it 🙂 I am making it my mission to expose you for the fraud you are.

    Here is the new title
Parents of autistic Illinois girl who “speaks through her art” Is a scam!!
Its probably best Candy’s name isn’t on there. I think we may get even more signatures

  21. It’s obvious not just one person, you keep attacking ( Alina? ) isn’t the one of hundreds at this point thousands of ppl who see thru your scam. I fear for this child, as your families “reputation” is based on her not being able to communicate. I fear you withhold therapies so your child will always remain non verbal. I think you intentionally keep her from experiencing life’s simple joys Bc you are constantly in fear of being exposed. Frankly I fear for any child that has to live in the web of lies you created. I’m so glad to see a forum where ppl can actually ask about the authenticity an won’t be immediately blocked. Your attempt to quickly clean any skeptics to make it appear you have only one person ( you describe as mentally ill an other slanderous adjectives) that doubts you an she spends her time creating multiple identities, an stalking you people . I guess you forgot once you achieved your level of fame , ppl want the truth, that’s part of your new “celebrity status “, you created on your daughters diagnosis an the heart strings of ppl wanting to do nothing but support, seeing your attempts to bring lawyers an LEO into a legal free exchange of ideas, you create a level of transparency that’s frankly sad.

  22. I looked up their trademark app and saw they are doing business as Joint Venture Illinois, Park Ridge ILLINOIS 60068 http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4809:3dqz48.2.1
I’ve seen Sandy advertise on medical disease FB groups that I am a part of. I asked her if she had the medical disease, and she blocked me. How does she get so much attention when a few internet clicks raises serious questions for many of us? Something’s really off for the media to blindly trust her claims

    1. I know Sandy has got a lot of facebook and You Tube aliases. And I also believe she is buying her “like”s. After all a person can buy facebook “like”s. Sandy Waters is as crooked as the day is long and the authorities need to get off their dead asses and do something about Sandy Waters abusing and using her daughter Candy to line her pockets with money. It makes me sad that the authorities are absolutely doing anything about it despite all of our complaints and of course the petition we have.

  23. This broad must take us for a bunch of fools. I’m a professional artist and Candy did not paint these pictures on zazzle. She is not even talented. So stop fucking exploiting us through your lies. Anyone, even a monkey can make a mess like I seen in the You Tube video.

  24. It occurred to me after reading the facebook message from one of Candy’s blind followers this morning, that we may be using the wrong approach in getting Sandy Water’s scams shut down, since Sandy Waters is NOT physically abusing Candy. And a lot of people think that, finding out that physical abuse is not the case as well. This is probably, the reason why the authorities won’t do anything. So maybe we need to concentrate on the mental abuse of Candy Waters and try to find articles how mental abuse can take a toll on Autistic children and adults.

Since I’ve been contacting Candy Water’s blind followers asking if they would sign the partition, I have gotten several complaints that Stephanie Cox made it too vague. This is the main reason why I’m having trouble getting Candy Water’s followers to sign this once they see the deceit. If Stephanie Cox can give her partition some testimony how mental abuse can be as bad as physical abuse it would sure help. I also hope that Stephanie Cox will allow comments too.

    1. Hi Alice,
What I was told is that the vagueness and removal of certain specifics, such as photos or names, was required of the person that created it in order to keep it up, or else they would force the whole thing to be removed. The comments were later disabled by the website, not by the person that made the petition, from what I heard and saw. So it wasn’t vague by choice or design.

      1. Thanks for you follow up. I understand now. I sure hope we can find a way we can shut down Sandy and Robert Waters Art Scam, so Candy don’t have to go through this mental abuse anymore.

If Sandy and Robert cares anything about their daughter then they will discontinue their wicked ways and start loving their daughter for who she really is, instead of making her out of a money making machine. I wonder if the Waters even have a conscience?

  25. Ok, looks like the parents have threatened bringing out the big guns in both civil and criminal law…crickets. Who will they get on the case next? CIA? KGB? NASA?
They could clear this up in 5 minutes. Let’s see a painting being created using the amazing invention of video – Facebook Live, Periscope, Instagram, YouTube. People make videos every single day using their cellphones. I’m guessing it is within the capabilities of the parents. And making a video seems a lot less of a hassle than kicking that hornets nest that makes up the KGB!
Author: Aren’t you glad you’re not in Supermax? Those parents are ruthless!!! 😂

  26. I had been following Candy Waters “art” for some time on Facebook and the last few months I started to question if the parents are taking advantage of their disabled daughter after I too saw the heavily edited video of Candy painting. I have been reading a lot of comments concerning the attitudes of the parents and the thought of people like that who make fame and money out of a child that is ill is nothing but disgusting, sad and very cruel.
I wonder if say, a art gallery was to call the Waters bluff by inviting Candy to do a art piece.painting in full view of a live audience or a selected number of people with the parents made to wait in the wings?

    1. In the past, the parents have tried to get out of providing decent footage or live painting by claiming that Candy goes through phases and gets “silly” if she knows she is being filmed. It’s obviously a cop-out. Funny how she seems oblivious to the camera and that doesn’t actually appear to be the REAL reason they don’t show an unedited video from start to finish without mystery hands or mystery embellishments. They published a YouTube video of her in a bathing suit smearing paint, laughing at funny sounds and stimming, pointing at the sky (not interested in painting). The father is overheard commanding her like a dog, to “spread the paint around” and put it in certain spots. Candy didn’t care that she was being filmed at all. She wasn’t interested in painting, really. (She goes off-task easily and is constantly redirected and told how/where to paint on the canvas instead of just letting her explore on her own.) That footage was publicly posted and is available to the entire internet. The parents also promoted it online and provided it to news stations as part of human interest stories being done on Candy. So obviously they don’t care about parading their child around in a bathing suit and promoting it for the entire world to see, and they don’t care that their kid really isn’t engaged in painting as long as they can train her like an animal to make it look peripherally like she’s the one making rainbow flowers and pastel birds. Because that’s what sells on Zazzle and not the muddy smearing.

It would be so simple for those parents to tell the truth and actually help others. They could lead by example and have a million people admiring them for being honest and real and giving them hope. Instead, they to continue their LIES with the smoke and mirrors techniques in order to fleece the public for attention and money, and exploit that poor child. No objective 3rd party has ever seen that child painting the art that is being marketed. It is always a controlled and edited environment. Truly sickening. Criminals.

  27. I remember the video that has been mentioned. I have also been a follower of the FB page for a very long time and only in recent months had I questioned the authenticity of some of ‘Candy’s’ work. I found this page from the feedback on Amazon under ‘her’ book. The ‘bullying’ has been mentioned on Candy’a page and they show a photo of Candy looking sad and claim it is because of the bullying. No parent in their right mind tells any of their children they are being bullied online or otherwise. I’m happy I found this blog as it had validated my suspicions.

    1. I have been a follower of Candy’s FB and art for a long while. At first, I was ready to go after the Candy naysayers. But the more I researched the allegations against her parents, the more I question the validity of the artwork. Why won’t her parents post a recent video from beginning to end of Candy painting?

      1. Hi Lisa, Yes that is all that has been sought the entire time. Just proof that this is a genuine and authentic business. A full length time-lapse video would have been the simplest solution.
In the past, they also promoted the work as going to a “good cause”, but that too was debunked when the charities were contacted for confirmation. They stopped saying the art went to charity at that point but continued nonetheless. For over 3 years, only one public video existed of Candy painting. Now there are over a dozen, but they still do not put concerns to rest because you don’t see her painting without edits or pauses, and what you do see does not resemble these finished products. It is all very sad and though the critique is being branded as “bullying” it is not anything against the child. There are valid concerns rooted in compassion for her and the behavior in dodging any attempt to answer them is reaffirming that this may not be all that it seems.

    2. So much is deleted and blocked from the fan page whenever someone is at all curious or concerned, that this website was created to make both sides available for people to form their own opinions on the work. There is a deep history of people questioning the work that was always hidden. It is a difficult thing to come forward with. No one wants to think negatively. I’m sure everyone really does want it to be Candy painting.

  28. The cease and desist threats are laughable. If these people truly had a legitimate gripe, they could easily hire a real attorney, who , for a few hundred dollars, would send a letter on their letterhead to WordPress informing them that they are being slandered on this blog. Of course , truth is always defense to alleged slander, which is precisely why they cannot find a real attorney to defend them. Instead, and ironically, they resort to the same type of bullying that they falsely claim others are engaging in.

    1. Exactly. This website is over a year old and within WordPress guidelines or else it would not exist. If there were concerns of defamation, they could handle them legally. Instead, several commenters here have reported real life harrassment from the family in an effort to silence them from discussing the work. As far as we have seen and regulated in the comments, no one means any harm or is in any way trying to bully the child, who is 16 years old. We have nothing to gain from discussing the lack of authenticity present for the work. When questions were asked directly on their Facebook page, they were deleted and the user was automatically banned. This doesn’t provide answer but rather leaves the user to be more suspicious and questioning. There existed proof in the past years of people questioning the very same things, on twitter, Facebook, and an Easter seals blog on Candy. People discussing the work in an inquisitive and skeptical manner were met with hostile threats, and when that didn’t work, they were further pursued offline. We have compiled screenshots, emails, and other documentation, which was also submitted to the district attorney for Illinois. There are also those that are concerned about the emotional and developmental wellbeing of the child, however, this website focuses primarily on the artwork and the validity of the claim that it is produced by an autistic child. Many of the voices captured here are those of other individuals who have children with autism, have autism themselves, are artists who have worked with autistic individuals or all of the above. There is no question that autistic people are intelligent and have talents that are remarkable. This is a specific discussion on what looks to be a situation that is not completely transparent or genuine in its business operation, which is indeed of public concern.

  29. Let’s do this, members. Blow up Zazzle Support @ZazzleSupport on Twitter just what we think of them for helping to perpetrate a scam called “Candy Waters Autism Artist”. We can do this. But it is going to take more than a couple of people to do it.

A lot of us are on the Autism Spectrum and some of us are artist. Besides mental abuse of a severely disabled child and Sandy Waters cheating people out of their money through this scam, she is also causing every Autistic Artist to be questioned.
